Our Work

CHANGE promotes a human rights-based framework for U.S. sexual and reproductive health policies and programs that address contraceptive access, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, maternal health, abortion access, and stigma and discrimination.

As part of this effort, CHANGE seeks to remove the ideology-based and counterproductive restrictions in U.S. policy, such as the Global Gag Rule, that hinder evidence-based, rights-based, and gender transformative approaches to sexual and reproductive health.

Learn about CHANGE's approach to securing sexual and reproductive health and rights for all and current priority issues.

Case Studies

Making Change Through Advocacy: COMPASS Africa Reverse Co-del
The Reverse Co-del is our signature advocacy tool—a flip on the concept of congressional delegations abroad, in which members of Congress visit countries and learn about development and U.S. foreign assistance. The Reverse Co-del brings advocates and experts from the Global South to Washington, D.C. to educate Congress and government officials.

Making Change Through Convening: SRHR and the Global Response to Zika
In response to the deepening Zika crisis, CHANGE convened a panel discussion in Washington, D.C. to address the issue in the framework of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). On September 29, 2016, health policy experts, along with CHANGE, gathered at the Embassy of Sweden for “A Rights-Based Approach to Zika: Putting Women and Girls at the Center of the Global Response.”

Making Change Through Research and Policy Analysis: Exposing the Global Gag Rule
CHANGE’s groundbreaking report, called “Prescribing Chaos in Global Health,” documents the harms of the Global Gag Rule (GGR) from 1984 to 2018, with new data revealing the impacts of the Trump administration’s expanded version of the global rule in Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Making Change Through Strategic Communications: Protesting the Global Gag Rule
On March 8, 2017, CHANGE led more than 40 women’s rights groups and one thousand protesters as they descended on Washington, D.C. to protest President Trump’s expansion of the Global Gag Rule (GGR), and to support women worldwide who would be hurt by this deadly policy.
