In reaction to the widespread protests and police violence that have occurred across the United States in the wake of the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and countless others, Serra Sippel, President of CHANGE (the Center for Health and Gender Equity) issued the following statement:
“CHANGE staff and board recognize the pain and suffering of those who have lost loved ones to police brutality and racist attacks. We stand in solidarity with the activists in Minneapolis and around the country in demanding #JusticeforGeorgeFloyd, calling for an end to police violence, and declaring that Black Lives Matter.
“We recognize how racism and white supremacy are explicitly structural, sustained, and amplified by institutions like law enforcement. We stand in solidarity with the Black community and people of color and dedicate ourselves to dismantling white supremacy, neo-colonialism, and racism. We demand justice for Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and the millions of Black people who have historically and currently experienced violence and brutality every single day because of racism.
“We can and must do better.”
